Camping in my Own Backyard: Sibbald Point Provincial Park

When my friend first asked me if I wanted to book a weekend camping trip along with her family to Sibbald Point Provincial Park - I laughed! The park was only a five-minute drive from my home in Jackson’s Point! When I started thinking about it further, in the 4 years I’ve lived in my house I have never even made it to the park. I said “yes” that my husband, myself, and two young sons would love to join and discover a part of Georgina we have yet to explore!

While we packed the camping trailer on the Friday, we had to hold back our laughs as we knew we were only a short drive away if we forgot anything – then we hit the road! Driving into the Provincial Park really started to feel like the true outdoor getaway we needed, surrounded by the lush forest, dirt paths and gravel roads.

On Saturday morning we headed to the playground where the Park Rangers had set up some games for children and handed out fun guides filled with facts and activities for kids to do while exploring nature. Later in the day we walked over to the beach where the kids played in the sand and swam in Lake Simcoe.

That evening we enjoyed S'mores and laughs around the campfire.

On Sunday the weather was beautiful, the sun was shining and warm! We packed the trailer up and headed back to the beach. The kids spent hours playing in the sand and water, and we enjoyed lunch at the Park Store. When it was time to leave we were thankful that our five-minute commute home was quick! This was the type of staycation we needed and happy that we were able to experience the part of Georgina we had yet to uncover, Sibbald Point Provincial Park!

I would highly recommend to residents of Georgina, and those coming to visit, to enjoy a day-trip and/or camping experience at Sibbald Point Provincial Park.
