Description
True relationship-building with Indigenous people is not authentic unless it moves past an acknowledgement.
Many businesses and organizations routinely acknowledge the traditional territory of Canada’s Indigenous People. But many sound similar, or in some cases, identical. If we are to truly acknowledge the contributions of Indigenous Peoples, the land we live and work in, and the communities around us, we need to do better. Land acknowledgments should be more than ticking a box. They should incorporate thought, effort, and authenticity. They should acknowledge the past, present, and the future. And they can be the start of building meaningful relationships with Indigenous Peoples.
Join Karen Bird, an Ojibwe woman from Batchewana First Nations Ontario, Little Thunder Consulting, and the Past President of the Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce, as she shares how to create and deliver land acknowledgements with meaning, authenticity, and intention.
